Job Summary
The X-ray/Fluoroscopy Radiographer plays a crucial role in the healthcare system, particularly within the Diagnostic Services department. This position is responsible for conducting a variety of imaging procedures, including X-rays and fluoroscopy, to assist in diagnosing and treating patients. The radiographer will work closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality imaging services are delivered while maintaining patient safety and comfort.
In this role, the radiographer must demonstrate a strong understanding of radiographic principles, radiation safety protocols, and the operation of advanced imaging equipment. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients, explain procedures, and provide reassurance during examinations. Additionally, the radiographer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, as well as maintaining accurate records of patient information and imaging results.
The position requires a commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to best practices in radiography. The radiographer will also be involved in quality assurance activities, including regular equipment checks and participation in departmental audits. This role is vital in contributing to the overall patient care experience by providing timely and accurate imaging services that support clinical decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
1. Patient Assessment & Imaging Procedures
• Evaluate patients' medical histories and clinical requirements to determine the most appropriate imaging techniques.
• Perform X-ray and fluoroscopy examinations following established protocols to produce high-quality images for diagnostic purposes.
• Ensure all procedures comply with radiation safety standards, minimizing exposure to patients and staff.
2. Radiation Safety & Equipment Operation
• Operate advanced imaging equipment proficiently, ensuring the functionality of all devices and troubleshooting any technical issues that arise during procedures.
• Ensure that all imaging procedures are conducted in compliance with radiation safety protocols, minimizing exposure to both patients and staff.
• Regularly check and calibrate imaging equipment to ensure its accuracy and safe operation.
3. Patient Interaction & Documentation
• Communicate effectively with patients, explaining imaging procedures and providing emotional support to ease patient anxiety.
• Maintain accurate records of patient information, imaging results, and any incidents or complications during examinations.
• Provide post-procedural instructions and address any patient queries to ensure continuity of care.
4. Quality Control & Collaboration
• Participate in regular quality assurance activities, including equipment calibration, performance evaluations, and departmental audits to ensure imaging standards are maintained.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, including physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Contribute to the development and review of departmental protocols for imaging procedures to ensure adherence to best practices.
5. Training & Professional Development
• Mentor and train junior staff, including new hires and students, in radiographic techniques and safety protocols.
• Participate in continuous professional development through training sessions, workshops, and relevant certifications to stay updated with the latest advancements in diagnostic imaging.
• Lead departmental initiatives aimed at improving patient satisfaction and service delivery.
6. Emergency Response & Compliance
• Be prepared to respond effectively in emergency situations related to imaging procedures.
• Ensure compliance with all local and international regulations regarding radiation safety standards and health regulations.
7. Research & Community Engagement
• Contribute to departmental research initiatives aimed at improving imaging techniques and patient outcomes.
• Participate in community outreach programs to raise awareness of diagnostic imaging services available at AMCE.

Organizational Responsibilities

Confidentiality
The post holder must be aware that Confidential Information and data to which the post holder will have knowledge and access to in the course of their employment with the AMCE is to be kept confidential, and this confidentiality is a condition of employment. The duty to maintain confidentiality continues even when the post holder is no longer employed.
This information is not to be shared with anyone outside of the AMCE under any circumstances, except to the extent necessary to fulfil any duties and responsibilities required within the role. Furthermore, upon termination with the AMCE Abuja, the post holder will return to the AMCE all confidential information held.

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Radiography or a related field, with a focus on diagnostic radiography.
Advanced certifications or additional training in radiography is preferred.
Registered Radiographer with a professional certification (e.g., Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria).
