About The Role

Job Summary

The Radiology Manager (Radiographer) will oversee the operational, clinical, and administrative functions of the radiology department within the Diagnostic Services. This role is pivotal in ensuring the delivery of high-quality imaging services, maintaining patient safety, and enhancing the efficiency of radiology operations. The Radiology Manager will lead a team of radiographers, support staff, and administrative personnel, fostering a collaborative and professional environment. The role requires a blend of clinical expertise, managerial acumen, and strategic vision to drive continuous improvement and innovation in radiology services.

The Radiology Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures that align with best practices and regulatory standards. They will ensure that all imaging services are delivered in a timely, accurate, and patient-centered manner. The role involves close collaboration with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, and administrative staff, to ensure seamless integration of radiology services within the broader healthcare delivery system.

Key aspects of the role include managing the radiology department’s budget, overseeing equipment maintenance and procurement, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The Radiology Manager will also be responsible for staff recruitment, training, and development, ensuring that the team is well-equipped to meet the demands of a dynamic healthcare environment. Additionally, the role involves monitoring and evaluating the performance of radiology services, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing strategies to enhance service delivery.
 

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the radiology department, including scheduling, staffing, budgeting, and equipment maintenance. Ensure that all radiology services are delivered efficiently and effectively.
  • Quality Assurance: Develop, implement, and evaluate processes and procedures to ensure high-quality patient care. Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as safety and quality standards.
  • Staff Management: Supervise and manage radiology staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance evaluation. Foster a positive and productive work environment.
  • Financial Management: Develop and manage departmental budgets, monitor spending, analyse financial data, and make recommendations for cost-saving measures.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other healthcare providers and departments to coordinate patient care and services. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and committees.
  • Technology and Equipment: Oversee the procurement and maintenance of radiology equipment and supplies. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and technologies, and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Patient Care: Ensure that all imaging services are delivered in a patient-centered manner, prioritising patient safety and comfort.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of radiology services.
  • Performance Metrics: Monitor and evaluate departmental performance metrics, and implement changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Main Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day to day operations of the Radiology department including scheduling and workflow management
  • Supervise and manage radiology staff, and evaluating performance.
  • Oversee the scheduling and coordination of imaging services, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of services.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of imaging services, implementing quality improvement initiatives as needed.
  • Manage and ensure cost-effective use of resources.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, including radiation safety standards.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless integration of radiology services within the broader healthcare delivery system.
  • Oversee the maintenance and procurement of radiology equipment, ensuring that all equipment is in good working order.
  • Provide clinical guidance and support to radiographers and other staff, ensuring adherence to best practices and clinical protocols.
  • Develop and implement training programs for radiology staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as safety and quality standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate departmental performance metrics, and make changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Act as lead for Equality & Diversity in the department to ensure the development and effective implementation of a strategy, set of policies, procedures and monitoring and control systems are in place.

Personal and Staff Development

  • Work with HR to undertake recruitment, retention, performance management and development of staff in the team.
  • Work with the Recruitment Manager to establish connections with appropriate local, international and online communities to nurture a pipeline of talent to support the growth of the company.
  • Responsible for development of high potential employees, providing a structured approach to mentoring and developing critical talent at all levels of management.

Communications And Working Relationships

  • Internal: Maintain open and effective communication with radiology staff, other department managers, and healthcare providers to ensure seamless patient care.
  • External: Liaise with equipment suppliers, regulatory bodies, and external healthcare providers to ensure compliance and optimal service delivery.
  • Team Collaboration: Foster a collaborative work environment by encouraging teamwork and open communication among staff members.
  • Patient Interaction: Ensure that patients receive clear and accurate information about their radiology procedures and care plans.
  • Conflict Resolution: Address and resolve any conflicts or issues that arise within the department promptly and effectively.
  • Management: Report to senior management on the performance of the radiology department, including budget management, quality assurance, and strategic planning.
  • Handle patient and staffconcerns and compliants in a professional and timely manner.

Line Management

  • Directly manage a team of radiographers, support staff, and administrative personnel. , and report to the Lead Consultant Radiologist
  • Provide regular feedback and performance evaluations to staff, identifying areas for improvement and development.
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of radiology staff.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative working environment, promoting teamwork and professional development.
  • Ensure that all staff adhere to departmental policies and procedures, including health and safety regulations.

Organizational Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of radiology services.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of the radiology department, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, including radiation safety standards.
  • Manage the radiology department’s budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Oversee the maintenance and procurement of radiology equipment, ensuring that all equipment is in good working order.

Confidentiality

The post holder must be aware that Confidential Information and data to which the post holder will have knowledge and access to in the course of their employment with the AMCE is to be kept confidential, and this confidentiality is a condition of employment. The duty to maintain confidentiality continues even when the post holder is no longer employed.

This information is not to be shared with anyone outside of the AMCE under any circumstances, except to the extent necessary to fulfil any duties and responsibilities required within the role. Furthermore, upon termination with the AMCE Abuja, the post holder will return to the AMCE all confidential information held.

The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and well-being and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.

About Us

African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has announced the commencement of its African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) project in Abuja, Nigeria.
